Maryland, U.S.A. — They say when you marry a man, you’re marrying his family too, but these ladies didn’t realize they were signing up for a family. Investigation Discovery’s hit series I married a mobster returns this August to reveal true stories of being a Mrs. in the mafia, from the riches of the rise to the ferocity of the fall. Each half-hour episode sits down with one woman as she recounts the fast-paced and dangerous lifestyle of being a first lady in the mob, whether she knew what she was signing up for or got the surprise of a lifetime when the feds came knocking. The second season of I married a mobster premieres on Wednesday, August 15 at 10 and 10:30 PM (E/P) on Investigation Discovery, with the premiere episode featuring the story of Lyndsey Cyr, Whitey Bulger’s ex who reveals how the “love of her life” transformed into the FBI’s most wanted man.

Expanding beyond the New York mafia, the new season of I married a mobster tells of mob families across the country, from Boston, Philadelphia and even Las Vegas. Episodes profile women such as a wife who transformed from goomah to boss’ consigliere, another who became a Kodak Girl turned skilled getaway driver, and one who had to choose between testifying against her husband…or John Gotti, Jr.

When her mob friends discover her skill, they put her to work driving getaway cars for notorious mob boss Carlo Gambino. Now a part of the mob’s inner circle, Durante meets club owner Joe Lamendola. He sweeps her off her feet, but as soon as they say I do, her prince charming turns into the prince of darkness. Durante finds herself thrust down a road of constant violence that won’t end until one of them is dead.

• No Way Out – Lynda Milito’s Story

As childhood sweethearts, Lynda was a Jewish Juliet to Louie Milito’s Italian Romeo. • Street Smart – Ruthann Seccio’s Story

Ruthann Seccio didn’t have an ideal childhood. At the age of 12, “less than ideal turns” to “nightmare” when she’s raped and arrested for a crime she didn’t commit. By the time justice is served and Seccio is released, she survives on the streets of Philadelphia using her street smarts to get her through. At 23, Seccio sets out to find a better life, catching the attention of Philly’s mob boss, Ralph Natale. Despite their 35-year age difference, his status as a married man and her friendship with his daughter, Seccio gives into Natale’s advances. But after she becomes his most trusted confidant and after he becomes a rat, the love affair not only puts her life on the line but also threatens to destroy the Philly mob all together..

New York, U.S.A. — Sixteen-time Emmy winner (including a record nine consecutive wins for program) “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart“ is nominated this year in four categories, including Outstanding Variety Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Chuck O’Neil was singled out for the ninth year-in-a-row for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series.

The show was also nominated for Outstanding Picture Editing for Short Form Segments and Variety Specials. This brings the grand total of Primetime Emmy nominations for the “The Daily Show” to 44. “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” is also a two-time winner of the prestigious Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.

“The Colbert Report“ received four Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Variety Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, a category in which it won its first Emmy in 2008, and director Jim Hoskinson was cited for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series. The show was also nominated for Outstanding Picture Editing for Short Form Segments and Variety Specials. The series has been nominated in the show, writing and directing categories for seven consecutive years and its total number of nominations now stands at 28.  The show has also twice been honored with the prestigious Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting

Comedy Central Digital Media also received a nomination for Outstanding Special Class – Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program for “The Daily Show Correspondents Explain” on thedailyshow.com. The division has garnered one Emmy and five nominations the category.

“6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park” was nominated for Outstanding Non-Fiction Special. The exclusive behind-the scenes documentary by Arthur Bradford shot at the South Park Studios in Los Angeles chronicles the rigorous process of producing the iconic series in under a week.

Three-time Emmy winner “Futurama“ earned a nomination for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode ‘The Tip of the Zoidberg,’ as well as a nomination in the Outstanding Voice-Over Category forMaurice LaMarche.  The series has aired for two seasons on Comedy Central earning two Emmy wins last year and previously aired for five seasons on Fox (1999 to 2003) earning four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Animated Program, taking home the Emmy in 2002.

The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented in two ceremonies. The first, primarily for creative arts categories, will take place on Saturday, September 15, while the balance of the Emmys, primarily for the performing arts, will be announced before a black-tie audience during a primetime telecast on ABC onSunday, September 23 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA.

TV Land has picked up its fifth original sitcom, “Have Faith,” starring Cedric “The Entertainer,” it was announced at the TCA Winter Press Tour by Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land. The network has ordered 12 episodes for the first season, which is set to premiere in June of this year.

The sitcom, which was created by Cedric and “Hot in Cleveland” creator Suzanne Martin, revolves around Cedric’s character, Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine, an R&B superstar-turned-minister who takes over as preacher of his father’s church. Niecy Nash (“Reno 911″) also stars as the reverend’s wife, Lolli.

The pilot features John Beasley (“Everwood”) as his father, Wesley Jonathan (“What I Like About You”) as his younger brother, and Jazz Raycole (“My Wife and Kids”) as his daughter. The character of Reverend Boyce originated on a second season episode of “Hot in Cleveland” in which Cedric guest-starred.

“The show that Cedric and Suzanne have created is a fantastic family sitcom that you just don’t see as much on TV today,” said Jones. “That’s just one of the reasons we’re so thrilled to welcome him to the TV Land family. From the moment he appeared on ‘Hot in Cleveland,’ we knew we wanted to work with him in a greater capacity.”

“Hot in Cleveland,” TV Land’s first original sitcom starring Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Betty White has also been greenlit by the network for a 24-episode fourth season.  A syndication deal was recently reached for “Hot in Cleveland,” giving CBS Television Distribution the domestic distribution rights for the series. This season pickup would bring “Hot in Cleveland” to 80 total episodes. The series, which is currently in its third season, averages 2.5 million total viewers per episode.

“With the show’s recent win at The People’s Choice Awards and Betty’s recent SAG Award nomination, it’s clear that the fans love and want more of ‘Hot in Cleveland,’” said Jones. “TV Land is growing in a major way, and these pickups are just the tip of the iceberg.”

Netflix announced it was planning to split its DVD/Blu-Ray rent by mail and online streaming services back in early September. The mail delivery service was branded as Qwikster and video games would be made available for rent as well. Since then the plan was called off and entry into the video game rental market was put on hold as many customers opposed the split.

Subscribers did not like the idea of having to visit a different website and mange a second account to rent movies or video games. Netflix’s stock price has been steadily dropping since the 60% price hike in July and loss of 800,000 subscribers in the last quarter despite the firm’s profits.

Shareholders were also not happy as Netflix would have to spend millions to launch Qwikster when consumers have already established Netflix as a rent by mail service under the Netflix brand. With Netflix’s missteps that leaves one begging the question, is there a legitimate alternative to Netflix?

Angry Netflix users have been on the lookout for something new and there might just be a replacement depending on their viewing habits. Online streaming services like iTunes and VUDU have no monthly fee but the bill will quickly add up from just a few purchases as each rental will cost around $0.99 to $5.99 depending on what it is.

The content per dollar ratio is probably not what Netflix users are looking for. Amazon Prime Instant video and Hulu Plus are much more viable alternatives as they allow unlimited streaming for a monthly fee.

Amazon Prime has the smallest selection but also has the lowest price at $79 a year, and offered a discounted price for college students that subscribed earlier this year, but Amazon has not stated if it will offer that deal year after year. Amazon Prime also has content for rental much like VUDU and iTunes.

Hulu concentrates more on what is current on television offering a free option that allows users to see five episodes of a show’s current season, movies, and in standard definition. Hulu Plus gives access to full seasons, a better selection of movies, and in high definition for $7.99 a month. Hulu uploads episodes a day after it airs on television giving it an edge over Netflix’s usual 28 day wait.

There really is no widely accepted alternative to Netflix at the moment. For $7.99 a month Netflix offers the biggest online streaming selection in movies and television. Hulu Plus is definitely better than Netflix for television fans but it is the other way around for movie buffs.

As much as people argue which is better to have Hulu Plus or Netflix (even though they have some of the same content available) at the moment they should be considered compliments and not substitutes of each other.
