The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The well-publicized ‘Twilight’ saga is finally at an end with ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2′. The previous movie had left the audience hanging with Bella dying in childbirth and Edward desperately trying to change her into a vampire. Jacob, who had hated the baby Renesmee, imprinted on her, which indicates that they will be future mates. The final seconds of ‘Part 1′ showed the newly-turned vampire Bella opening her eyes for the first time as an immortal, which is the exact scene that ‘Part 2′ began with. While the beginning was very slow and slightly cheesy, the movie quickly picked up momentum as the movie progressed. The acting was well-done and showed a different side of the Cullen family with the addition of Bella and Edward’s daughter Renesmee. The addition of the half-human half-vampire child added dimension to the final movie that was perhaps lacking in its predecessors. The audience was also able to better connect to the storyline since it revolved around a child being in danger and what family will do to protect that child.

Renesmee was in danger from the Volturi because they thought she was an immortal child who must be killed in order to protect the vampire race from exposure, so the Cullens did everything they could to convince other vampires that she was not an immortal child. Because of this added twist, the movie showed more of a broad spectrum of the vampire nation with the Cullens recruiting witnesses to their cause. Vampires were shown from the Amazon and Ireland, in addition to vampires that were thousands of years old. This new blend of characters added a freshness to the plot that had previously revolved around how much Bella wanted to be with Edward as a vampire.

The new vampire additions and Renesmee make the movie worth seeing because they bring humor and powerful emotions into the forefront. The new vampires were very old and had endured immense hardships, but were still humane in their quest to do what they thought was right. Perhaps because of their hardships, the vampires are able to look at life in a humorous and easy sort of way, which contrasted brilliantly with the Cullens intensity in life. Perhaps the funniest aspect of the addition of Renesmee was the fact that Jacob had to explain to Bella that he had imprinted on her newborn daughter. Bella used her new super strength to her advantage and literally threw Jacob around in her anger. Jacob’s relationship with Renesmee was that of a protector and pseud-older brother, not one of a future mate, which was good to see.

Bella’s character also undergoes a huge transformation since she has become a mother, which is a great asset for the movie. She is no longer the wimpy human who could not fight and lets Edward control every situation; instead, she is one of the strongest characters in the movie and was not afraid to be aggressive towards Edward either. She had always been the ‘Twilight’ movies’ weakness. Surprisingly, Edward seems very proud of Bella’s new strength, which sends the positive message that it is acceptable to be a stronger woman in a relationship. Edward’s relationship with Jacob also dramatically changes in this conclusion, since they are no longer competitors for Bella’s affections; instead, Jacob wants to protect and be with Edward’s daughter.

The new additions of Renesmee, the other vampire characters, and the development of Bella as a vampire made the movie extremely hilarious and unpredictable, which I did not think was possible in a ‘Twilight’ movie. Not only that, but it also showcased the actual book more, especially within the last ten minutes. While the movie remained slightly cheesy at times, it was overall a satisfying conclusion to the Twilight saga.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

No, it is not a heavy metal group and no its not something the normal person wouldn’t listen to. This is maybe the group that almost most of the earth’s population has listened to without even knowing , Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix are the only two founders and composers behind the music of Two Steps From Hell.

If someone never watched a Harry Potter or any Marvel movie or never played Mass effect or kill zone, then they are still counted as one of many that listened to this group without knowing because their music was played during the opening of the London Olympics 2012.

The reason this group is so known yet unknown is that their music was present in almost the best and the most watched movie productions, usually their music are always used in movie trailers. In a sense this kind of music is always what makes the movie look more exciting than it actually is.

Two Steps From Hell has been doing trailer music for several of biggest movies in the past few years, such as ‘Avatar’, ‘Up’, ‘Beauty & The Beast’, ‘Super 8′, ‘The Avengers’, ‘Tintin’, ‘The Amazing Spider Man’ and many more.

The group was formed back in 2006 by Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix who combined their musical abilities to write a book full of original music that in only six years has achieved great success and 22 album releases.

To explain the formation and the process of Two Steps From Hell. The music is composed and written by Bergersen and Phoenix, and is then played and recorded by an orchestrated group conducted and by a conductor. Their official conductor is Petr Pololáník, he is an orchestrator and music producer. Petr studied both violin, piano and conducting and now he is working with Bergersen and Phoenix.

Many would categorize this brilliant music under its own genre, as it has a new form and new musical structure that has a blend of tastes from the classical and epic music era to the rough and solid heavy rock music, that gives a motion picture its real motion. Almost any fictional or adventure motion picture trailer or a thrilling scene would not be the same without this music, yet their music without the motion picture will still definitely give the image and the message without seeing it, and that is the unique element of their music. It is music that tells a story and takes the listener to new lands.

The artistic album arts are done by the artist and graphic designer, Steven R. Steven, who is well known in the film community where he has worked on the graphic campaigns for movies like ‘Lord Of The Rings’, ‘Dark Knight’, ’300′, and ‘Watchmen’. Steven is the mastermind behind all of the Two Steps From Hell album covers.

Two Steps From Hell are in a sense a musical group that has changed the musical world of the movie theater and in a sense boosted the view counts of many overrated movies.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

If you are looking for a new twist on the vampire plot, Andrew John Robinson’s Vampire Vendetta should be next on your list of must-reads. Becoming a vampire, from Robinson’s point of view, is not the glitz and glam of Twilight, but neither is it the classical horror of Dracula.

In this realm vampirism is a virus that was first used in battle but has gotten out of hand. It is a disease that many fear to get, despite it being extremely difficult to do so. This new race of people has created a politically charged setting with a high level of misinformed individuals who do not tolerate what is unknown to them and thus try to eliminate it.

Robinson offers up a world that is described with such great detail that it is hard to believe it doesn’t exist. Every room is laid out in front of readers like a universal blueprint, or an expertly-sketched rendering by an interior designer. There is nothing more readers will want than to get the chance to spend at least a couple of days exploring the Eagle Estates Private School. This school may not be as magical as Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, but it holds just as much appeal to readers and, like Hogwarts, seems to be a world all its own.

The only setback is that the story revolves around a set of characters, so other than their interactions with each, other not much else is seen of the experience a student would have at Eagle Estates. Readers will definitely pick up on the over-the-top security measures, and the comings and goings of students, but there is not much detail regarding the differences between the lives of vampire students and “norm” students. Readers get just enough information about the students’ lives to quench their curiosity, but they will soon wish there was more.

The ending is also a bit abrupt, especially in comparison to all the drama that goes on throughout the book. Rosemary, the daughter of an arms dealer and now a newly-turned vampire, is kidnapped by the Anti-Vamp League, and it is up to her friends and the man who made her a vampire to come to the rescue.

The case becomes such a high priority that even the president of the United States is involved. If things go wrong it could mean the end of Eagle Estates, the president’s reputation, and the disintegration of a family. The stakes are set high, as a group of rich kids learn to take care of themselves in order to save their friend. Not only will they change their lives, they will also change the future of all the students to enter the gates of Eagle Estates, vampire and norm alike.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Nina Berry’s Otherkin has the potential to create as much hype and have as big a fan base as Twilight and The Hunger Games. Her debut novel dives right into the action and drama of Desdemona’s battle with disease and the world of animal shifters known as otherkin. When strong emotion causes her to change into a tiger, things start to get stranger and stranger for Desdemona and she soon finds herself wrapped up in a world where danger never seems to disappear.

Whether she is running from the dreaded Tribunal, a religious force determined to drive the otherkin to extinction, or trying to get the different shifter tribes to work together against a common enemy, Desdemona does not bring disappointment to readers.

Berry has successfully written a fast-paced novel filled with the many issues teens go through in a way that will keep them flipping pages and wanting more. Most of the characters in Otherkin do not see eye to eye with their families who keep them secluded within their own tribe, only letting them mingle with shifters of a different animal species when they are chosen to go to a school meant only for young shifters who have the most trouble learning to shift into their animal form and maintain control.

These teens are told again and again by their parents that they are to marry young, have kids to maintain the dying shifter population, and continue the cycle of tribal preservation.

Getting along with those considered different is highly frowned upon, but when Desdemona, rumored to be the last tiger shifter, arrives at the shifter school and requests refuge from the Tribunal, she must convince both the teen shifters and their parents that she is worth the risk. Further complicating her situation is her companion, Caleb. He is a caller, someone who can force otherkin to shift back and forth between animal and human form and also call upon the shadow that resides in shifters as well as some objects. Callers and shifters have been known to tolerate each other, but even that has never gone exactly to plan.

As the group is forced to work together, Desdemona helps them to accept themselves and others, even as she battles with her inner demons. Could this be the generation to change the tradition of self-preservation at any cost that is central to each tribe? After all, when has an eagle played friends with a mouse, other then when he wants it to be his meal.

The animal nature at the base of each tribe causes the most difficult complication in Desdemona’s goal to achieve cooperation. Desdemona continues to push the idea that otherkin are not just animals, they are also human, and humans can get along.

Nina Berry’s Otherkin may be the first book in the similarly named series, but readers will already be hooked and have high expectations for the next installment. For a first novel, Berry has set herself a standard that may be hard to surpass. The pace of the novel starts off fast and readers may be doubtful that Berry will be able to maintain their interest as well as the pace, but she has down so with grace.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Robert Pattinson has reportedly asked Kristen Stewart, 22, to move out of the $6 million house they share together shortly after news broke that Stewart had cheated on him.

Pattinson left the home shortly after he learned about Stewart’s makeout session with the director of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ Rupert Sanders, 41. Pattinson has been staying out of the public eye and away from his house, but according to a source close to the couple they have barely talked since the news came out. In fact, the only time that the couple has talked was when Pattinson asked Stewart to move out, according to a confidential source from People.

A U-Haul was seen outside the house on Saturday, July 28. It looks like Rob is not taking the ‘momentary indiscretion,’ as Stewart described it, very well. “The entire thing has been such a blow to Rob. Talk about having his heart ripped out. Rob just isn’t going to be able to get past the cheating – one time or not,” the source told People magazine.

The “momentary indiscretion” was caught on film by paparazzi that saw Sanders get into Stewart’s Mini Cooper and then witnessed the couple making out in the car.

However, this incident may not be only a ‘momentary indiscretion. According to Sanders’ brother-in-law, Leopold Ross, Sanders and Stewart were having the affair for almost a year. Ross told People that his sister and Rupert’s wife, Liberty Ross, suspected that the affair began the year before. “It was from the last half of filming and all through post-production, clear into last week.”

According to sources, Liberty is giving Sanders a second chance. “She accepts that it was just one of those silly flirtations. This kind of thing gets blown out of all proportion,” a close friend reported to The Telegraph.

Liberty Ross has already given up a lot for her husband – such as leaving her home in England to help him pursue his career in Hollywood – according to Leopold Ross. “She made some sacrifices for something she thought was worth it, now she knows, right? It might actually make things better in the long run. She wasn’t that happy for a while, but our family is close, she’ll be all right.”

Although Sanders is getting a second chance it doesn’t look like Stewart will. However, she and Pattinson will have to see each other at least one more time to co-host the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6. The two are also supposed to start doing their promotional tour for the latest film in the Twilight saga ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2’ which comes to theaters November 16.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

‘Twilight’ fans are on a rampage since actress and ‘Twilight’ star Kristen Stewart, 22, has been revealed as a cheating girlfriend. Her victim: co-star and heartthrob Robert Pattinson, 26. The two began their relationship four years ago when they met on the set of ‘Twilight’.

US Weekly reported that Stewart and the British director of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman‘, Rupert Sanders, were caught in a “marathon makeout session” on July 17. A photographer reported, “it seemed like they couldn’t get enough.”

At a press conference a few weeks earlier Sanders was quoted as saying about Stewart, “there’s something very rebellious about her. She’s very kind of wild and untamed…She’s got a great spirit.” Yes, indeed, director.

Stewart issued an apology on Wednesday, July 25 stating: “I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused t othose close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”

According to a source close to Stewart the actress “wasn’t having an affair with Rupert…it was just a fleeting moment that shouldn’t have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She’s a good person who just made a bad choice.”

Rupert Sanders is dealing with his own drama now that the news broke on July 24. Sanders is married to actress/model Liberty Ross, 33, who played Stewart’s mother in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ Sanders and Ross have two children together who are seven and five.

Sanders issued his own apology to his family stating, “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”

Liberty Ross tweeted the Marilyn Monroe quotation, “sometimes bad things fall apart so better things can fall together.” Things are not looking promising for Sanders.

As for Robert Pattinson, there has been no news as of yet about his feelings on the matter. The couple was seen together only a few weeks ago at the San Diego Comic-Con with co-star Taylor Lautner.

There is also no news as to how this tryst will affect the filming of the ‘Huntsman’ sequel which was expected to include both Stewart and Sanders in the production.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Washington, U.S.A. — According to a new U.S. extraterrestrial survey from National Geographic Channel (NGC), more than 80 million Americans are certain that UFOs exist. In fact, many believe in tangible proof that aliens have landed on Earth and think that government officials are involved in covering up paranormal activities. Moreover, most citizens would not mind a minor alien invasion, because they expect these space-age visitors to be friendly—like the lovable character depicted in Steven Spielberg’s popular film “E.T.”

Survey results also reveal that more than one-third (36%) of Americans believe UFOs exist. More than one in 10 (11%) are confident that they have spotted a UFO, and one in five (20%) know someone who claims to have seen one.

Despite the popularity of “Avengers” and “Twilight,” more than seven in 10 (71%) Americans think that aliens are more likely to exist than are superheroes, vampires and zombies. Furthermore, if aliens attacked our planet, more than one in five (21%) would most likely call on the Hulk to deal with the havoc. Far fewer would most trust Batman (12%) or Spiderman (8%) to step in.

In regards to national security, nearly two-thirds (65%) of Americans think Barack Obama would be better suited than fellow presidential candidate Mitt Romney to handle an alien invasion. In fact, more than two in three (68%) women say that Obama would be more adept at dealing with an alien invasion than Romney, vs. 61 percent of men. And more younger citizens, ages 18 to 64 years, than those aged 65+ (68% vs. 50%) think Romney would not be as well-suited as Obama to handle an alien invasion.

Tech Supervisor Erin Ryder and UFOlogist James Fox from NGC’s new series “Chasing UFOs,” believe the survey results are in line with the interviews and research they found in field operations taping the show. Viewers who watch the series’ back-to-back premieres on Friday, June 29, at 9 & 10 PM ET/PT, will witness over 30 Texas residents who swear they saw an unidentified flying object in 2008 and Colorado towns folk share their encounters with the team about speeding saucers and green lights that often are spotted in the night sky.

NatGeo’s “Aliens Among Us” survey polled a random nationwide sample of 1,114 Americans, May 21-29, 2012. The poll was conducted by Kelton Research, which used e-mail invitations and online surveys. Quotas were set to ensure reliable and accurate representation of the total U.S. population, ages 18 and older. The margin of error is +/-2.9 percent.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Kristen Stewart, the famous Twilight starlet, recently topped Forbes’ highest-paid actresses list. She made an estimated $34.5 million from May 2011 to May 2012. $34.5 million may seem like a lot of money, but women in the acting business are paid less than men. The women who made it onto Forbes’ highest-paid actresses list only earn a total of $200 million, compared to the $361 million that the top men rake in. There are many factors that determine who ends up on Forbes’ list. Upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements, and advertising work are all considered. Agency fees and expenses related to having a celebrity lifestyle are not included. Managers, agents, lawyers, and other people who are in the Hollywood loop helped Forbes to come up with their estimates.

At 22, Stewart is the youngest actress on the Forbes list by 16 years.

Needless to say, Stewart’s reoccurring role as Bella Swan in the Twilight saga has helped her to reach the peak of her career and the top of the Forbes’ list. Her latest role as Snow White in “Snow White and the Huntsman” has also helped her revenue.

Veteran actress Cameron Diaz ranked second on the Forbes list. Diaz raked in $34 million over the same time-frame as Stewart. Her 2011 comedy, Bad Teacher, made $216 million in global ticket sales, which is more than double of what its budget was. “The Green Hornet” and “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” also helped Diaz to be ranked second.

Surprisingly, Sandra Bullock trailed $9 million behind Cameron Diaz. Bullock raked in $25 million. The 47-year old actress is still earning revenue from her 2009 Oscar winning hit, “The Blind Side”. The film earned $310 million.

During Christmas of 2011, Bullock’s film “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” only earned $48 million. Bullock is currently working on a big-budget sci-fi film directed by Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity. The film also stars George Clooney. “Gravity” is scheduled to be released in 2013.

Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron rounded out the top 5 on the Forbes list. Jolie raked in $20 million while Theron raked in $18 million.

Kristen Stewart may be snatching the number one spot again next year on Forbes’ list of highest-paid actresses. Stewart has the highly anticipated last installment of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn– Part 2 to look forward to later this year. She is currently working on the film Cali, which is scheduled to be released in 2013.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

That time of year is here again when a new installment of the Twilight Saga is on its way to theatres. This time we are gearing up for Breaking Dawn Part 1. With all the excitement and hype about the movie we are really being dialed into the long awaited Cullen wedding between two of the main characters, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).

This wedding has been the talk of news outlets and media for months now — including what the dress is going to look like, and what kind of action we are going to see in the days leading up to the joyous occasion. The wedding has been very secretive from the very beginning.

While filming the crew even went so far as to, as Kristen puts in an interview with ClevverTv “tackle” her after they called cut in every take with a giant covering so that the dress was kept a secret until the premiere.

The wedding itself is filled with a lush arrangement of flowers and beautiful lighting as we see in the newly released trailers, and all of the supporting actors and actresses surrounding the happy couple such as Bella’s parents (Billy Burke and Sarah Clarke). The wedding is the opening of the film and has been long anticipated by the fans from the very beginning of the saga a few years ago as the real turning point of the series.

In previous films Edward’s stipulations for turning Bella was marriage, and now that she has given in to his request, the audience is on the edge of their seats wondering what is going to happen next. Now, if you’ve read the books you already know, but it’s hard to say what will actually happen in the films.

After the wedding we do know, however, that there is going to be a sexy, love-filled honeymoon, with a bit of a twist. Bella becomes pregnant. The hardest scene, Stewart says, was the birthing scene. She loved it, but things got a bit strange at some point or another. She states: “I really took to it.

My favorite thing to play in this was that feral sort of mother,” she explained. “None of it was really as strange as you think it would be. I guess it got strange when things were incredibly unreal, like when we had a fake baby. The real babies were amazing to work with, but suddenly you pick up this goopy, hairy doll, and it just doesn’t really work.”

Pattinson agreed with the strangeness of the scene and adds his not so pleasant experience: “I mean, it’s a little bit difficult to get more surreal than chewing through a placenta.”

The director and cast have given us plenty to look forward to as well after confessing that there was a real transformation in the characters in the film. In an interview, Actor Taylor Lautner explains his feeling about whether or not he looked forward to finally being finished with the filming of the series.

He says: “It’s more so no, I’m not excited to be done. We have a lot fun making these movies together. We all get along great, and we’re like a family by this point, so it’s tough,” he explained. “But yes at the same time, because we get to go off and do other things as actors, and this has been an incredible platform for us.”

This was reflected in all of the actors and actresses on board since the completion of Part 2 that is not due to come to theatres for some time yet. Now that they are all free from twilight they can go on to new projects. Who knows, maybe they will be part of the next phenomenon in film.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Twilight star Taylor Lautner is set to explode on the big screen in a film fans say will be the film to really make him a real Hollywood star. He will be playing the part of a teenager named Nathan Price. Nathan always had the feeling that there was something not quite right with his life. He felt as though he was living someone else’s life.

When he stumbles upon an image of himself as a child on a missing person website, all of his darkest fears seem to come true. He realizes that his whole life is just one big lie. His parents are not really his parents at all and there seems to lie underneath the surface a much bigger, more dangerous and mysterious lie than he could ever have imagined.

As Nathan begins to put together the pieces of his life in trying to find his true identity he is pursued by a group of trained killers. Nathan is then forced to run for his life with the only person he can trust his neighbor Karen played by Lily Collins. To add romance to the film, Lautner’s real life girlfriend plays Lily.

Together, they head off for an adventure of their lives and discover the mysterious death of Nathan’s real parents. Nathan and Karen must run for their lives with not a second to lose or they face the fear of being captured by an army of Assassins and federal operatives. Nathan must realize the only way to survive is to discover the truth of his biological father and take matters into his own hands.

The movie Abduction is directed by John Singleton, who is responsible for films such as Boyz in the Hood, Poetic Justice and Higher Learning. Abduction stars Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins and Sigourney Weaver. Lautner who is one of the most successful young stars in Hollywood over the last few years due to his work on the Twilight series looks set to make it big in this high paced action adventure.

It was made with a budget of about $40 million, as estimated by Variety magazine. Lionsgate studios won a bidding war for the script in 2010 for $1 million. Gotham group and Vertigo entertainment developed the script based on an idea by Jeremy Bell. Photography on the film began on July 12, 2010 in Pittsburgh, Penn.

Casting for extras was held at Carnegie Mellon University, which drew more than 900 people, many of whom were fans of the Twilight series. A majority of the film’s scenes were shot at Mount Lebanon. The film is also set to include some of the most intense fight scenes that are guaranteed to thrill audiences.

Lautner revealed recently that he performed nearly all of his own stunts in the movie. Lautner said he made the insurance companies covering the movie very nervous since he insisted on performing his own stunts. Although he got a few bruises, there was nothing that bad. Abduction is set to open in theatres on September 23 2011

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

A recent study published in Nature has shown that the moon may not be as old as once thought. With samples brought back from the Apollo 16 mission, researchers at California’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have determined one of two things: that either the moon is about 60 million years younger than thought, or the molten stage of development solidified later than previous estimates.

In the prevailing theory, during formation, as the magma of the moon cooled, crustal moon rocks formed called ferroan anorthocites. These mineral rocks have proved difficult for scientists, when it comes to scientifically dating them.

Lars Borg, from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory said that with these samples, he and his colleagues have seen the first success in yielding consistent ages using multiple dating techniques. Borg and his colleagues utililzed new refining techniques to reach the new consistent age.

“Previous attempts to date these rocks have relied on just one isotopic clock which can be contaminated putting the age in error,” said Borg in a Discovery News article. “So we started with the idea that we would get multiple age samples so we could have confidence it reflected the crystallization age of the sample.”

The new projected age of the moon falls right around the age of the oldest crusts on Earth at about 4.36 billion years old. This number represents what scientists have found to be when the rock crystallized.

These new findings do oppose the popular “giant impact theory” of the moon’s formation. However, this research is not providing a clear alternative to this theory. Clive Neal, a planetary geologist at the University of Notre Dame told the Los Angeles Times that the researchers need more evidence. Before coming to the conclusion that the theory has been disproved, there must be more evidence of inaccurately dated rock samples.

Apollo 16 launched in 1972, as the tenth manned mission in the American Apollo Space Program. The mission brought back 94.7 kg of lunar samples that are still being tested today. This new research may spell change for other geological studies as well, using new techniques to overcome common problems with scientific dating.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

Chris Weitz, an Academy Award® Nominee for About A Boy (2002) and possibly even better known as the director of Twilight’s New Moon (2009), is bringing another powerful drama to the screen in A Better Life. In his new movie, Weitz paints a narrative of the resilience through the story of a father, who is an illegal citizen, working as a gardener in L.A. to provide a better life for his son. The father, played by Demián Bichir, has access to an important business opportunity through obtaining a pickup truck which would allow him to build a successful operation and have control of his own destiny. This potential is soon crushed when his pickup truck is stolen, throwing not only his life but his son’s into jeopardy.

A strong contender for next year’s Oscars as well as the Spirit Award, this film supplies a sturdy storytelling of a very real fact of life for many illegal immigrants living and working around the world today. The film stays true to many Latino elements, featuring little English and a cast comprised of almost entirely Latino actors. Bichir, who played Fidel Castro in Che (2008), delivers an honest and hardworking performance of a parent up against all odds who continues to fight after each set back in hopes of a good future for his teen son Luis.

Struggling against the presence of gangs and the community offered within them, Bichir’s son, played by newcomer Jose Julian, struggles against what he wants and what his father is trying to provide for him. The hardships which both must endure intertwines them, resulting in a profound connection between not only father and son, but opportunity and the success a person can create.

A Better Life manages its portrayal of the hardships by a single parent Latino very carefully. The context which provides a vehicle for the script is the tightly woven bonds between Latino families and how hardships can tear at that very fabric. At a KCET screening series Weitz identified the movie as having a “deceptively good script” which “dissolved into performances of the actors”. A strong element of the seamless performances given which are completely embodied by the actors is the fact that they were cast without an invested interest in celebrity names. Aside from Demián, who is well known throughout Mexico, the rest of the cast is relatively unknown. This is a key element to the dialogue which the film creates, allowing for an experience unmarred by the political and social baggage which established actors would inevitably contribute.

Despite coming highly acclaimed, A Better Life has struggled to find publicity among many viewers. To be part of a story heard through every culture and race, find this movie in a theater nearby and take meaning from the determination of humanity.

The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

They are now officially everywhere in Australia. In addition to the Twilight series causing young girls to drool at the thought of men twinkling gently in the daylight, there are other vampires stalking and smoldering across our television screens.

For teenage vampires we have the Vampire Diaries, based on a series of books about a girl named Elena who falls in love with one of two brothers who (plot twist!) happen to be vampires. But in another, more thrilling plot twist Elena looks exactly like Katherine, the woman who both brothers loved, slept with, and who turned both brothers into vampires.

Elena has got more guts then Bella of Twilight fame, and has an amazing ability to keep her hair looking immaculetly presented regardless of what death-defying situation she has found herself in. The brothers are both very pretty and frequently shirtless.

It’s also one of the few teenage-drama shows that doesn’t just consist of endless re-caps of previous conversations and current emotional turmoil. Most episodes have some form of cliffhanger or massive plot twist. It’s exciting to watch a show filled with very pretty people having dramatic lives and plot actually progressing.

And then there is Tru Blood. It’s wild. It’s sexy. It’s not the sort of television show you want your parents or roommates or significant other, or in fact anyone, to walk in on you watching, because it could very, very easily be mistaken for some type of blood-kink pornography. But with an incredibly complex and fascinating plot. And oh, the plot.

The shows basic premise is that Japanese scientists have created a fake blood known as Tru Blood, which has enabled vampires to ‘come out of the coffin’ and re-enter broader society. This has kicked off an international battle over how to recognize and deal with vampires. After all, they are basically immortal, incredibly strong, power and beautiful and they eat us.

Also religious groups are extremely angry, calling the vampires demons and wishing for their extermination. Vampire lobby groups are engaged in campaigns for equal rights, to be able to marry and vote and recognized as citizens like regular humans.

But this is all just in the background, much as political and social conflicts are usually in the background of our lives, to the story of Sookie Stackhouse and the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Which is filled with both very attractive people, and a heck of a lot of supernatural creatures.

There are twists. There are turns. There is harrowing betrayal. People die. People turn out to be shapeshifters or witches or accidentally summon women from ancient Greece who believe they are destined to marry gods. Yes. That happened.

It’s amazingly well acted, with convincing and multi-layered characters who evolve and change. They lose, they make mistakes (lots of them), they turn out to be bastards when you thought you could trust them, and they turn out to be wonderfully kind when you thought they were bastards.

There is a reason this show has become a huge cult-classic and has spawned drinks, merchandise and intense love in all who watch it. It’s engrossing, complex, mutli-layered and is one of the few fantasy shows that seem real.

It’s clever, funny and deeply, deeply sexy. This show is bringing sexy back, for dead bodies reanimated by demon blood who survive by drinking human blood. And every single character on the show could sexually smolder Edward Cullen into oblivion.

From the vivid mind of the Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke brings a new edgy turn to this 500 year old legend. The adorable and amazingly talented Amanda Seyfried takes on the heroine role, Valerie, who is caught between the man she loves Peter, played by newcomer Shiloh Fernandez and wealthy Henry portrayed by newcomer and member of acting royalty Max Irons.

Basically, we are all familiar with the fairy tale about the girl who goes to visit her grandmother only to discover she has been eaten by an enormous, very scary wolf. This adaptation is based loosely off the original folk tale and various other adaptations. But this film takes on more of a mystery spin and adds a bit of a ‘who done it’ to the story which actually makes it worth tuned.

Amanda Seyfried is by far a star on the rise and she gave her best damsel in distress performance in this film. But she also added strength and courage to the character, which was certainly needed. But this cast was not only filled with new comers but lots of well-known established actors. Gary Oldman, plays Father Soloman, a man brought to the town to get rid of the beast. The ultra-talented Julie Christie is in the film as well as Valerie’s grandmother and number one suspect of being the wolf. Virginia Madson plays Valerie’s worried mother while Twilight’s Billy Burke plays her always alcoholic father.

Also, Lucas Haas makes a cameo in the movie as well. We haven’t seen him in awhile and it makes you think that Hardwicke must be a good business woman is when she can get people who haven’t been seen in a long time to do her movie. That and Leonardo Dicaprio was one of the executive producers.

While the more prestigious actors bring the right amount of talent that is needed for a film like this, the younger actors for sure brought their own to the table. Fernandez, who weirdly enough was considered for the role as Edward in the Twilight films brings more than just his dashing good looks. His charm and leading man qualities shows that he is ready to do whatever comes his way. Irons, son of Jeremy, does a fine job as well playing the man who wishes he could have the girl. We can certainly see where he gets his talent from, we only hope that we can see more of his work in America.

The look of the film is absolutely beautiful. The scenic design and the costumes made it fill like they were really living in a medieval village. But, what was good about this story is that it was not looked at as the typical fairy tale. It has a rawness and edge that really makes it stand out but, with a director like Catherine Hardwicke that what you get.

It is a coming of age story but in a good way, not like an episode of Dawson’s Creek. Before you see this movie remember to forget everything you know about Little Red Riding Hood and be ready to see a more grown-up adaption with beautiful boys, much romance and of course a CGI wolf.
