The Toonari Post - News, Powered by the People!

The NY Post showed Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick with a bib on the front page. The picture has Vick’s face on the body of an infant with a quote from a Giant player telling him to “stop crying.” Vick’s comments after the game have caused quite a stir in the media, inspiring various analysts and former players to pile on opinions on the quarterback’s attempt to “not blame the referees.”

Vick felt that he was not receiving fair treatment from the refs and not getting the calls that other quarterbacks in the league get for a lot less. After that press conference, ESPN has shown on every show aired afterwards that it is not that simple — some of these stats in fact show the opposite of what the pro bowl quarterback claimed on Sunday.

Vick was speaking out of frustration and anger after being knocked out of the game. After taking a day to think about his comments with the help of the league and the coaches, he sort of took a step back saying that he wasn’t trying to “blame anybody and it is an unfortunate accident.”

After watching that game and watching several highlights of the hit in question, it is hard to blame Vick for believing he deserved a flag. At the same time, it is even harder to blame the refs and place this on their lap for not doing their job. The league has become a passing league and the commissioner along with the league office has placed a premium on protecting signal callers in the NFL.

It is hard to judge the many hits that Vick takes within the span of a game because of the amount of running he does in and outside the pocket. Vick felt that other quarterbacks got calls that he didn’t but the elite quarterbacks in the NFL are ‘pocket-friendly’ quarterbacks in a sense.

The hits they take are judged in one realm which should not get intertwined with the other. Vick doesn’t make it easy for the referees. The Eagles’ offensive line is horrible at this point which makes it impossible to survive in the pocket for any Eagles quarterback.

The irony is that the line played a major factor in Vick becoming the starting quarterback for the Eagles and now he might not survive because of them.

Vick went 16/23 for 176 with one interception but left prematurely with a bruised hand. At this point, Vick is questionable for Sunday and the Eagles are now 1-2 looking ahead towards the San Francisco 49ers.
